Verbal communication has two forms: oral (face-to-face, phone, meetings) and written (letters, emails, reports). Choose the form that suits the message and audience.
Written forms include letters, emails, notices, memos and reports. Written communication gives a permanent record but needs clear, correct language.
A phrase is a group of words without a subject-verb pair (e.g. ‘in the morning’). A clause has a subject and a verb and can be main (independent) or subordinate (dependent).
By purpose: declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory. By structure: simple, compound and complex sentences.
A paragraph has one main idea, a topic sentence, supporting sentences and a closing sentence. Keep it organised and coherent.
