Code 065, Class 11. A computer takes input, processes it and gives output. Here we meet its parts, its memory and the software that runs it.

|
A computer system is hardware and software working together. It follows the cycle input, process, output, storage.
The input unit takes data in, the CPU processes it (ALU and Control Unit), the memory stores it, and the output unit shows the result.
Primary memory is fast: RAM is volatile (lost when power is off) and ROM is non volatile. Secondary memory (hard disk, SSD, pen drive) is slower but permanent.
System software runs the computer (the operating system, utilities). Application software does a task for the user. Software may be general purpose or made for a specific purpose.
