Code 802, Class 11. Networks connect computers and the internet connects the world. Here we meet network types, devices and how the internet works.

A network joins computers to share data. The internet is the biggest network, using rules called protocols.
A LAN covers a small area, a MAN a city and a WAN a large area. Devices include the hub, switch (join computers), router (join networks) and modem (connect to the internet).
The internet is a global network. The World Wide Web is the pages on it, reached by a URL and shown by a browser. Every device has an IP address.
A protocol is a set of rules for communication. HTTP is for web pages, FTP for file transfer, and TCP/IP is the basic protocol of the internet.
