Code 065, Class 12. Networks connect computers and the internet connects the world. Here we meet network types and devices, and how the web works.

|
A network joins computers to share data. The internet is the biggest network, and the web is the pages we view on it.
A PAN is personal, a LAN covers a small area, a MAN a city and a WAN a large area. Devices include the modem, hub, switch, repeater, router and gateway.
A topology is the shape of a network: star, bus, tree or mesh.
The internet is a global network. The World Wide Web (WWW) is the pages on it, reached by a URL. A website is a set of web pages; a page can be static (fixed) or dynamic (changing). A web server hosts a site and a browser displays it.
