Code 417, Class 10. Data science finds meaning in data. Here we learn what it is and how a simple model works.
|
|
Data science studies data to find useful patterns and make predictions. It is a key part of the Data domain of AI.
Data has features (the inputs, like height and weight) and a label (the answer we want, like a category). A model learns the link between features and label.
A simple model is k-nearest neighbours (kNN): to predict a new item, it looks at the closest known items and copies their answer. Similar items usually share a label.
Data science is used for recommendations, weather forecasts, health checks and business decisions, wherever patterns in data can help.
