What this chapter is about
Information Technology (IT) is the use of computers and software to store, process and share information. ITeS means IT enabled services, everyday services delivered using IT.
1. IT and ITeS
IT covers hardware, software and networks. ITeS includes services like a call centre, a help desk or online support, which use IT to serve customers. BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) is a common ITeS example.
2. Where IT is used
IT is used almost everywhere: at home, in education, entertainment, communication, business, banking, healthcare and government services.
3. Why it matters
IT makes work faster, more accurate and easier to share, and it has created many new jobs in the IT and ITeS industry.
