Code 402, Class 9. A spreadsheet works with numbers in a grid. Here we enter data, use formulas and functions, and make a chart.
A spreadsheet stores data in a grid of rows and columns. Each box is a cell, named by its column letter and row number, such as B3.
Columns are named by letters (A, B, C) and rows by numbers (1, 2, 3). The cell address is the column and row together, like C5. You type data straight into a cell.
A formula starts with = and calculates, for example =A1+A2. A function is a ready made formula, such as SUM, AVERAGE, MAX and MIN, for example =SUM(A1:A5).
=SUM(B2:B6) (adds the values in cells B2 to B6) |
A chart shows data as a picture (a bar or line chart). You can also format cells: change the font, add borders and colour, and sort the data.
Explore the idea by tapping. The interactive opens right here in the lesson.
